At Democrasoft®, we recognize the importance of education in our school system and that it is in dire need of better resources, tools and our support. That’s why we created Collaborize Classroom™, a free online learning platform that allows teachers to take the ideas and conversations happening inside their classrooms to an online classroom, where students can continue the discussions that allow for both personal and educational growth. Using Collaborize Classroom™ has been proven by teachers to achieve more participation, engagement and comprehension by their students.

Recently, we learned about a film portraying the crisis of public education in the United States, called Waiting for “Superman”. Just as director Davis Guggenheim did with the Oscar-winning film An Inconvenient Truth in 2006, his new documentary has the potential to transform the way we look at the American public school system.  “Superman” showcases the real life challenges of education through a group of kids, families, educators and those trying to help to find real and lasting solutions within a dysfunctional system.

At Democrasoft, we believe that the greatest resource of any group, company or organization has at its disposal is the intelligence of their people. That collective intelligence is the driving force behind change, innovation, imagination and ingenuity for the future. Harnessing the Wisdom of We is about finding the value in each individual by allowing him or her to be heard.

We believe that students, when given a chance to use their voice, become dynamic participants in the learning process and active generators of knowledge, resulting in becoming life long learners who give back to their communities. However, they can only be successful if they have the right tools and resources.

Education cannot take a back seat to the current challenges of the education system, and Collaborize Classroom™ is a proven teaching tool that takes communication to a new level. Every student counts and deserves an opportunity to participate, inside and outside the classroom.                                                                     – Colt Briner, VP at Democrasoft

With salaries being cut and class sizes ballooning, so much of our nation’s greatest potential is going to waste.  In developing our own efforts with Collaborize Classroom™, and with plenty of motivation from a film like “Superman”, we felt inspired to do more.

In addition to spreading the word far and wide about this eye-opening film, we have launched a contest for those living in the San Francisco Bay Area (or those who might be visiting next week).

Four winners will be selected to attend the Western region’s exclusive promotional screening of Waiting for “Superman” in San Francisco on Tuesday, September 28th, as well as a Free Year of Collaborize Classroom™!

For your chance to make a difference, enter to win now at WeCollaborize.com/waitingforsuperman.html

At Democrasoft®, we help organizations to better engage, identify, refine and react to important issues and ideas by harnessing the “Wisdom of We” using Collaborize®. Teachers are now able to transcend the boundaries of their physical classroom to engage students in an online collaborative learning environment.  For more information about Collaborize Classroom™, please visit: http://www.democrasoft.com/component/content/article/59.html

On Friday, September 10th, 150 people from all over Northern California watched Shel IsraelRobert Scoble and moderator Jeremiah Owyang discuss the evolution of social media. The Wisdom of We 2010 Seminar & Tweetup, sponsored by Democrasoft was an hour and a half long seminar which looked at the idea of social media vs. “traditional media,” blogging and how the public gets information.

“Let’s go back…. BFB… Before Facebook.”  - Jeremiah

After looking back on some original innovators in technology, like Douglas Engelbart who invented the mouse back in the sixties – to the present influence of Klout scores – to what the future can become, the three took questions from the audience.  Questions ranged from politics, to location based services, to connecting with people, to what technology gives them the shivers.

“The next iphone and Siri, (a virtual personal assistant).  This is the world I am excited about.” – Robert

“The technology that I am excited about, it doesn’t exist yet… It is e-telepathy – when these devices become so small.  I can find out his (Robert’s) Klout score just by looking at him.”  -Jeremiah

“Technology’s impact on humans.”  -Shel

The San Bruno Fire which happened the day before the seminar was a great example of how social networking has changed how we view breaking news.  People were watching tweets about the fire which were more up-to-date than television or radio.

“We have become their feet on the street, but in the end, their sitting rooms still do a damn good job of getting information out.” – Shel

ABC News Bay Area had the best Twittering (during the fire). They were Retweeting things and really doing a good job.” –Robert

“I get so tired of social media and traditional media, it is all media. Social Media uses traditional media as sources and they do us.”  -Shel

Many people have asked what Wisdom of We stands for and our answer is that our product Collaborize is an online collaborative decision making online and voting tool based on the idea that working together is the best way to get results.  Creating a community within an organization or group of people with a common passion is one reason why social media works so well as a marketing tool.  It is the personal connections that differentiates social media marketing from other mediums.  This topic was brought up by Roohi Moolla from Social Biz Now. “It is so personal. Anyone who says (social media) is hype is wrong. It is about personal connections.” Attendees mostly came from the wine industry in Napa and Sonoma County through connections that the Democrasoft team has created via social networking.

“We don’t have pen pal’s anymore, we have Facebook friends.” – Jeremiah

Over a thousand tweets with the hashtag #WOW10 were shared, many people sharing quotes from the speakers and talking about the wine.  We held a twitpic contest and while there were many great pictures (I am fond of the ones of me on stage), there can only be one winning picture. The marketing team chose one by Rebecca Martin, aka @NapaWineGal on Twitter.  Not because it said my name or because it made us all laugh – but we loved the use of new technology to display a message written on old technology.

Hey there @sharayray were soaking up #wow10 but again @yo_harryo is forced to get creative http://yfrog.com/7fsutgj

After the Seminar, everyone gathered into the Sonoma Ballroom for some appetizers and of course, some wine. Nine Wine Road Wineries including; Peterson WineryHobo Wines, Limerick Lane, Sheldon Wines, White Oak Winery, Merriam Vineyards, Battaglini Vineyards, J. Keverson Wines and Siduri Wines were generous enough to pour some of the best wines in Northern Sonoma County. We had a raffle with prizes from the amazing Sizzling Tandoor, The Wine Spies, D’Argenzio Winery, Franco’s Ristorante, and Sift Cupcakery.

Images from the event can be found on Eric 先魁 Hwang‘s Flickr.

“ Sonoma County is…  A really collaborative experience, a great place to be.” – Beth

I cannot help but agree.

Robert Scoble and Shel Israel are two significant names in the social media world.  Their book, Naked Conversations: How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers defined blogging back in 2006 and changed the way businesses looked at the Internet. They taught people that blogs offer businesses a way to have meaningful conversations with their customers, which was lacking in traditional methods of communication.

Both have spoken at some of the largest social media conferences in the world and now they are coming up to Santa Rosa for one night on September 10th.  The two haven’t been on the same stage for over two years and for only $25.00 you can see them reunite for the Wisdom of We 2010 Seminar & Tweetup (or #WOW10 or the Naked Reunion).

They will be participating in a round table discussion, which means that attendees can ask them any question they want about social media, blogging, creating communities, working together, or….   This kind of information usually comes at a very high price at seminars or conferences, and you usually have to pay extra for the food and drinks.

At Wisdom of We 2010 Seminar & Tweetup, everything is included in the price.

Wine from the Northern Sonoma County Wine Road, which includes some of the best pinot, sparkling and zinfandel that Sonoma County has to offer will be poured at the tweetup. Local Sonoma County charcuterie, antipasto and cheeses will be provided by the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country as well.

You have a week left to buy your tickets online for only $25.00, so make sure to get some for your whole office, ASAP.

Robert is a top 100 tech blogger, tech evangelist, speaker and author. His blog Scobleizer is one of the top 100 tech blogs and he is one of the top Twitter people to follow on multiple lists. He currently works for Rackspace, building a new community of people fanatical about tech startups called building43.  Previously, he worked as a technical evangelist at Microsoft and Fast Company as a video blogger.

Shel Israel is a Social Media “Pro” that consults with leading Fortune 100 global enterprises and single entrepreneurs in home offices. In addition to co-authoring, Naked Conversations, he wrote the book Twitterville: How Businesses Can Thrive in the New Global Neighborhoods.  His blog Global Neighborhoods, offers social media tips and he is a senior fellow and advisory board member to the Society for New Media Research (SNCR), and serves as the social media advisor to StepOne, an organization that helps Spanish companies make American business connections.

Last Friday, the Marketing team here at Democrasoft choose the winner of the Twitter Contest to win a night’s stay at the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country on the night of the Wisdom of We 2010 Seminar & Tweetup on September 10th.

The winner was chosen from a random letter generator that came up with two letters, and then we searched through the list of Tweeple who entered the contest to find the Twitter names that had the correct combination of letters (we searched until we found a combination had generated more than five and less than twenty Twitter names).  Those names were written on pieces of paper and we drew a name from a box (we have no hats here in the Marketing office) and ding, ding, ding, we had a winner!

We had over 100 entries for the contest, which we couldn’t have done without the help of our online community!  So, thank you to everyone who tweeted the phrase “#WOW10 w/ @shelisrael & @scobleizer is all about wine, food & community – Check it out! http://bit.ly/WOW10
